GANDER RADIO
Gander Radio went on the air in 1938 in Gander, Newfoundland. It was originally known as Gander Aeradio. At the start, Gander operators communicated via HF Morse Code. Voice service commenced in 1948. HF single sideband was introduced in the 1970s. In 2007, Gander Radio assumed control of Arctic Radio. Gander Radio's transmit and receive sites are located at Gander, Cambridge Bay and Iqaluit. It is a division of Nav Canada, a non-profit corporation that owns and operates Canada's civil air navigation network.
